Disclaimer, Morgan Freeman is not a certified financial advisor.

Now let’s get to it.

In this letter we analyse the Vanguard FTSE Developed Markets ETF

Ticker: VEA | Price: $48.90 | Market Cap: $41.7B | Average 10-Year Annual Return: 5.10%

What is it (short): The ETF tracker of developed markets outside of the US Market.

What is it (long): The Vanguard FTSE Developed Markets ETF tracks the FTSE Developed All Cap ex US Index, which includes stocks from large, mid, and small-cap companies in developed countries across Europe, Asia, and Canada.

Our thoughts: This ETF is ideal for those looking to diversify their portfolio with international stocks from stable economies. However historically since the US market has been one of the strongest performers during the last decades due to its tech sector, it’s unfortunate that this index misses out on the US and could have had stronger investment gains.

One Visa for Six Southeast Asian Countries?

Thailand is leading an initiative to create a single visa that would allow travelers to visit six Southeast Asian countries—Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, and Vietnam—using just one visa.

This plan, often compared to Europe's Schengen visa, aims to streamline travel across these nations, making it easier for tourists and business travelers to move between them.

Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin is actively promoting this idea, and discussions with neighboring countries are already underway.

The goal is to attract more long-haul tourists, who typically spend more during their visits. The initiative could significantly enhance tourism and economic ties in the region.

Additionally, there is consideration of extending the visa validity to 90 days, offering more flexibility for travelers (vietnamnews.vn) (nationthailand) (TFN International) (Seasia.co).

Financial concept to learn in this edition: Value Investing

What is Value Investing?

Value investing is a strategy where investors look for stocks that are undervalued by the market.

These are companies whose stock prices are lower than their intrinsic or true value.

Value investors believe that the market sometimes overreacts to news, causing stock prices to rise or fall more than they should. This creates opportunities to buy good companies at discounted prices.

Key Points:

  • Undervalued Stocks: Value investors seek stocks that they believe are priced lower than they should be based on the company's fundamentals.

  • Long-Term Focus: They hold onto these stocks for the long term, waiting for the market to recognize their true value.

  • Famous Investors: Warren Buffett is one of the most famous value investors, following the principles of Benjamin Graham, who pioneered this strategy.

How It Works:

Think of value investing like shopping for deals.

Just as you might buy a TV on sale knowing its real worth is higher, value investors buy stocks they believe are on "sale" in the market.

Over time, as the market corrects itself, the stock price may increase, allowing the investor to profit.

Value investing involves careful analysis of a company's financials and a belief in its long-term success, despite short-term market fluctuations.
